When I wasn't in business meetings during my Japan trip I was in markets shopping for antiques and inspiration. Here is something I brought back with me.
Nara is a pretty and sleepy town where the locals will direct you to the best shopping locations. Down a tiny street filled with machiya houses and maple trees, we told to look out for the little A-frame sign. Once we saw it, we knew this little shop would be packed of antique goodness. We found porcelain painted plates, wicker baskets and miso bowls - the selection this older gentleman had was old worldly but well curated. The only downfall was that it was 38C and pure humidity and we were on foot - we couldn't physically carry anymore than a couple of paper bags worth, which makes what we bought even more special.
