About Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan
Ishikawa is a place we have only just scratched the surface of. From the beautifully preserved streets of Kanazawa to quiet fishing villages and rugged stretches of coastline, it has a slower rhythm that invites you to linger. The region is celebrated for its craftsmanship, from Kutani porcelain and lacquerware to delicate gold leaf, and that appreciation for making beautiful things is something we always come away inspired by. This original vintage map offers a glimpse into Ishikawa's past, preserving the landscape of a region that continues to honour tradition while quietly evolving.
Story:
Some pieces remind us why we love travelling through Japan in the first place. This map was one of those finds. We were drawn not only to its beautiful colour, typography and soft, timeworn paper, but also because it represents a region that has shaped so much of Japan's craft and design culture.
After carefully bringing it home to Australia, we had it professionally framed in Sydney in a solid Tasmanian Oak frame so it could begin a new chapter. Every crease, faded edge and gentle mark speaks to its journey, making this a truly one-of-a-kind piece of Japanese history and wall art.
