Nara holds a special place in our hearts, making this original antique map an easy addition to our collection. Rich in history and character, it captures a moment in time and makes a beautiful piece of Japanese wall art.

About Nara

Nara is one of those places that invites you to slow down. Once Japan's first permanent capital, it is home to centuries-old temples, peaceful gardens and winding streets where history quietly reveals itself around every corner. There's a timelessness to Nara that feels unchanged despite the passing years, making this original vintage map a small window into the city's past. Whether you've wandered its streets yourself or simply admire Japan's rich history and craftsmanship, this piece captures the enduring character of one of the country's most treasured destinations.

Story:

There are some places in Japan that stay with you long after you've left, and Nara is one of them. With its quiet temple grounds, centuries-old architecture and gentle pace, it's a city we return to whenever we can. When we came across this original antique map tucked away in a small second-hand bookshop, it immediately reminded us of wandering its historic streets and discovering something beautiful around every corner.

Printed in 1927, this one-of-a-kind map offers a glimpse into Nara nearly a century ago. The softened paper, faded inks and gentle signs of age tell their own story, making each mark part of its journey. We carefully brought it back to Australia and had it professionally framed in Sydney in a solid Tasmanian Oak frame so it could be appreciated for many years to come.
