In the countryside of Gifu, there's a small family-run workshop, the owner is a master potter by the name of Ryoji Hayashi. Now in his mid 80's, Hayashi still hand makes and paints every single piece. While visiting his workshop in February a few special pieces caught our eye. Each one is handcrafted and rare, we almost don't want to let them go.

Story

In the countryside of Gifu there's a small family run workshop, the owner is a master potter by the name of Ryoji Hayashi. Now in his mid 80's, Hayashi still hand makes and paints every single piece. His two sons now run the workshop for him, so he can focus solely on his craft. We have been working with Hayashi to create our very special Mt. Fuji candles that we released early this year.

When visiting the workshop in February, we got to see Hayashi's intricate mastery and wander through the workshop. While there a few of the rare pieces caught our eye and luckily Hayashi was willing to part with them so we could bring a few extra pieces home.

Specialising in Shino ceramics of the Mino tradition, Hayashi was awarded the Honourable Mention at the Gifu Prefectural Exhibition and received the Governor’s Prize. He has also received awards at the Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition, New Craft Exhibition, Japan Fine Arts Exhibition, the Gifu Marumono Exhibition and the Brothers Exhibition (just to name a few).

Each piece was handmade in Gifu by Ryoji Hayashi and is extremely rare and limited.
