Story
We met Mr. Saadaki Kido a few years ago. After arriving at Kyoto Station on a sunny autumn morning, we were greeted by Saadaki-san wearing a cap embroidered with "SYDNEY" on the front and his lovely sister, Keiko-san.
We drove to their home in Shigaraki, in the Shiga prefecture and Sadaaki-san showed us the three wood fire kilns he had built by hand in his backyard, as well as his workshop full to the brim with a very interesting type of pottery that we weren't familiar with. This was our first introduction to Shino and his incredible work.
Specialising in pottery for more than 30 years, winning many awards for his work, he travels to the Gifu prefecture to get his speciality clay and then makes each piece by hand.
Ingredients & Craft
Our studio is located in Sydney's Surry Hills, it is there we pour and craft each and every one of our candles.
Every Provider candle is designed with a second life in mind. Once the candle has finished burning, simply wash the vessel with warm soapy water and continue using it as a tea cup, coffee cup or planter. If you're nearby, bring it back to our Surry Hills store and we'll refill it with your favourite scent.
Create a layered home fragrance by pairing your candle with our Japanese incense for slower moments or quickly refresh your space throughout the day with one of our room sprays. Shiga Prefecture sits in the heart of Japan’s Kansai region, surrounding Lake Biwa, the country’s largest freshwater lake. Known for its peaceful landscapes, historic towns and deep traditions of craftsmanship, Shiga has long been shaped by its connection to water, mountains and the natural environment. The region is home to centuries-old pottery, textile and woodworking traditions, alongside temples, shrines and rural villages that offer a quieter glimpse into everyday Japanese life.
