Deep in the forest in Tajimi, we went to visit Kato Kiln once again. Run by master potter Mr. Kato who has been making beautiful pieces for many many years, we adore our visits here. Each piece is handmade and fired in a kiln located in the garden. This little dish is great as a condiment dish or jewellery dish.

Story

We've been making the journey to Kato Kiln for a few years now, it's one of our favourite makers to return to again and again.

Deep in the forest in Tajimi, master potter Mr Kato handcrafts and fires each and every piece in his garden kiln. Visiting always feels like being welcomed into the family. While selecting ceramic pieces to bring home to the store, Mr Kato makes us coffee, grinding fresh beans in an old corn mill, while Mrs Kato brings us homemade treats like dried persimmon, mirin crackers and cookies.

On our latest visit, we picked out some treasured pieces, including many beautiful bowls, plates and a few extra special Donabes and cooking pots.
