Deep in the forest in Tajimi, we went to visit Kato Kiln once again. Run by master potter Mr. Kato who has been making beautiful pieces for many many years, we adore our visits here. Each piece is handmade and fired in a kiln located in the garden. Use this plate for serving Nigiri, side pickled ginger or whatever you fancy. It is such a special piece ready to be added to your ceramics collection.

Story

We first went to Kato Kiln a few years ago now and every time we are in the area we return to this kiln located deep in the forest in Tajimi. Run by a master potter who has been making beautiful pieces for many, many years we feel so lucky we get to work with him.

We love spending time wandering around the grounds and visiting the garden kiln where each and every piece is made and fired by Mr. Kato. While selecting some special pieces, Mr. Kato made us coffee, grinding fresh beans in an old corn mill, while Mrs. Kato brought us homemade treats. These treats are one of our favourite parts of the day, this time Mrs. Kato gave us some delicious dried persimmon, mirin crackers and the best cookies.

It is such a warming experience visiting Mr and Mrs Kato, we always leave these visits feeling warm and fuzzy.
