Story

Deep in the forest in Tajimi, we were lucky enough to Visit Kato Kiln. Run by a master potter who has been making beautiful pieces for many many years. While visiting his traditional machiya house, we wore slippers and padded around his showroom located on the second floor. His lovely wife brought us treats she has made from her garden (sweet potato chip things and chestnut sweets) while we selected some of his pieces.

He took us out to the garden where his small kiln was located. He fires everything in here. While looking at his craftsmanship his wife handed us a fresh fig from their garden - it was delightful. Upon leaving she gave us a pack of dried figs she'd been preparing and a goody bag of the sweet potato treats.

Such a warming experience to learn about someone's craft while being welcomed into their home and treated like family.
