Story
Made at the foot of Mt. Katsuragi in Nara Prefecture Japan, the master potter uses red clay to create each piece which is then covered with either a white glaze, matte black glaze or an iron glaze. The unique iron glazing involves mixing iron into the glaze to make it appear as though it is metal. We found this maker in a small market on one of our trips to Japan a couple of years ago now. We loved the glazing and textural unique look for the servingware. We have been returning to visit Sagawara San ever since and pick up some of these much loves ceramics.
Each of the pieces are hand made, making each one a unique size and shape plus each one has its own unique glazing characteristics. The simple classic white glazing will fit seamlessly into your collection while the black/earthy glazes will become a feature piece to add interest and character.
