Most of Matsunoya's brooms are either made in either Tochigi or Gunma

The Tochigi brooms are the "Tokyo type" that were once shipped mainly to Tokyo; a lot are referred to as the "hamaguri type" that resembles the shape of a clam. Because it uses Southeast Asian broom grass, it can be made without colouring or bleaching. The more you use the broom, the more textured it becomes, and the better it fits in your hand.

About

Matsunoya has been curating sundries crafted by hand by artisans all over Japan and Asia since 1945. Working closely with skilled makers and small family-run workshops, they source items that offer everyday functionality but also celebrate the craftsmanship, time, and energy that went into making them.

With a small store in Tokyo where brooms, buckets, baskets, and dustpans spill out onto the pathway, it's hard not to find a place for each and every item in the home. Deeply functional, slow-made, and made from sustainable materials, what more could you want?
