Story
Founded in 1910, Yoshitani Wood Works has inherited Yoshino regions kyokumono technique and continues to preserve the traditonal craft of 'Sanbou' (three treasures). Taking advantage of the beauty of Japanese cypress and the pulling and bending techniques, the company makes utensils that are functional for daily life, while using Japanese heritage technology. Yoshino Cypress is said to be characterised by its beautiful vertical grain lines and soft colouring. It is also a sturdy material that can withstand the bending process.
We got to meet and work alongside Mr. Yoshitani at the 2025 Sydney Sake Festival, his passion and craftsmanship blew us away.
